Improvements to the Global Headquarters in 2006

There are three areas improved so far this year.

 1. Our front walk

This new walk replaces the old walkway made of wooden pallets.  Besides the safety factor of not having the small gaps between the boards on the top of the pallets, these concrete, paving Blocks are textured providing a rough, walking surface and are much easier to clear of snow, as I found out in Mid October after we got a 2-4” snowfall.

The walk consists of 38 16x16” paving blocks set in two columns of 19 for a length of 304” or 25.3 feet.  Allowing for some gaps between blocks, the overall length should be right at 25½ feet.  The width is 32-33 inches allowing for gaps.  It took two partial days to lay the blocks in early to mid July.

2. “Santa’s Workshop”

The paving blocks under the table/workbench provide a more stable surface for walking or will when the area is completed.  The mini-walk from the work bench to the side door of the garage gives a solid and reasonably smooth entrance and is much safer when snow covered.  This consists of 31 square paving blocks and (2) 8x16” half blocks.

The two half blocks are the results of the only paving block to break so far.   It was in the front walk and broke shortly after being installed, which aided in prompting a trip to buy the third batch of blocks.

I made three trips to K-Mart in Glendive, MT to buy the blocks

1st trip in late June: 18 blocks @ $3.99 = $71.82

2nd trip early July: 42 blocks @ $3.19 = $133.98

3rd trip early to mid July: 10 blocks @ $3.19 = 31.90
