Here are the needed files to run the official add-on to Blizzard Entertainment’s Classic “Diablo.” Hellfire adds items, quests, NPCs, shrines and two entirely new areas to the existing Diablo game. It also allows a ‘run’ or ‘jog’ option for faster movement while in the town of Tristram only.

Hf101.exe
This is your patch for the game, without it the game WILL crash in several ways, guaranteed.

Command Text.zip
This will give you the Barbarian and Bard characters. They appear in the game as avatars like the Warrior and Rogue but are really different in play. This file also gives eight new quests and three NPCs. I really suggest making an archive of this text document as you will want to make changes in it as you play the game. The Monk character is built into the Hellfire game, He was left out of the original Diablo due to time constraints.
    The basic file reads:
                        cowquest;theoquest;bardtest;multitest;barbariantest
I have never gotten the multitest (multiplayer) function to work.

To get one nice, simple quest, you will need to delete the cowquest from this file. This gives you Lester the Farmer’s quest (see below).

ExocetTTF.zip
Here is the type font from the Diablo/Hellfire game. I used it for the title on this page.

Game Information

Installing Hellfire still allows you to play the original Diablo game as Hellfire creates a separate folder for its game. You can import your characters from the regular Diablo into Hellfire. All GOLD, XP, levels and spells will transfer. However, your equipment will not transfer, it’s gone forever. But that’s not a bad thing as you can sell off everything and have the funds to buy the new item and spell books/scrolls available.

Quests and NPCs

Note: Both Lester and Jersey have humorous dialog if you try talking to them too soon.

#1
Lester the Farmer
(remove cowquest from the command.txt file)
Lester will not give you his quest until you are at character level 15 or have finished the Catacombs (cleared floor #8). By doing this simple quest you gain entrance to the Hive area and a useful item. Lester is located between the three cows and the upper bridge to Adria’s shack

#2
Jersey’s Jersey (aka the Cow Quest)
(must have cowquest in the command.txt file)
Like Lester, Jersey
will not give you his quest until you are “a good enough hero,” namely character level 15 or finished the Catacombs. Jersey can be an alternative means to gain access to the Hive area. By fulfilling his quest you gain some powerful new armor. Jersey is located in the same position as Lester.

#3
Celia and Theodore
(must have theoquest in the command.txt file)
Celia will appear after you enter the Hive the first time. She gives neat/useful items as a reward. Celia is located below the tree below the near the lower bridge to Adria’s shack.

#4
                              The Defiler Quest
The Defiler is the Boss villain for the Hive area. With your first entrance into the                               Hive you get his dialog and the quest will appear in that list. The hive is located
in an area you never could reach before, below where you first appear in
Tristram at the start of the game.

#5
Gillian
She tells you the basics for starting the Grave Matters Quest
You finish the Hive, including the 4th level to get a map. Gillian will tell you to take it to a new, huge grave located in the cemetery between the Church and the Crypt shortcut to the 5th floor. A nice development as it gives her more dialog. Gillian is in her usual location.

#6

                              Cornerstone of the World
This isn’t exactly a quest, but it officially counts as one. It’s VERY cool though.
Basically, this can be used to transfer items from one single-player character to
another. At first, there will be a pile of gold next to it. Replace that with an item.
Start-up another character at the same difficulty level, and the item will be there.
                              Located in the Demon Crypts.

#7
                              Weaken Na-Krul
His quest is optional, but it will remove all of Na-Krul’s immunities, making
beating him a lot easier. To do this, read these three books in the following order:
                                  1.     In Spiritu Sanctum (In Holy Spirit)
                                  2.     Praedictum Otium (Declare Peace)
                                  3.     Efficio Obitus Ut Inimicus (Render Death While Hostile)
Once you have done this, the door to Na-Krul’s chamber will open. If you don’t
want to weaken for some reason, just pull the lever instead of reading the books.

#8
                        Kill Na-Krul
The Final stop in Hellfire, your quest ahead is now to kill Na-Krul. To get the quest,
read the seven journals scattered throughout the Demon Crypts, and the
reconstructed note, which you find the three parts on levels 1, 2, and 3. My suggestion
is to make a note as you read the journals, so you know that you’ve read them all.

New Areas

The Hive
Four levels of entirely new monsters, not always easy to do, but you can really gain XP here.

Demon Crypts
At least three levels, maybe four, it’s been a long time since I played this portion of Hellfire.

New Items

Mana Staff
Has a certain number of charges (varies from staff to staff), great for Sorcerer (starts with low # charges, short staff) or a Monk. Drop one of with your loot in Tristram and re-charge your mana when you portal in to sell items or take one along when you know your going to burn a lot spells. Shop with Adria until you get a Bountiful or Plentiful staff (cheaper to recharge) of the 48 to 69 charges on a short or long staff.

Oils
Any and all of the Oils you can find are great. They look like a grey bottle. Rarely are they not useful. Oils are found as loot on dead bodies or in containers and occasionally on the floor, but never sold by a merchant. They do sell nicely.
